PPP Job Posting - Cultural Events Coordinator

Pacific Peoples’ Partnership is seeking a dynamic and outgoing Cultural Events Coordinator to organize educational and cultural events in the Victoria and Southern Vancouver Island area. These events will raise awareness of environmental and human rights issues in the South Pacific and Canadian First Nations.

Successful candidates will be enthusiastic and motivated self-starters who welcome an opportunity to practise cross-cultural skills while deepening knowledge of South Pacific and First Nations cultures, international trade agreements, international environmental conventions, Human Rights and conflict transformation.

Duties will include:

  • Organizing a variety of outreach events.
  • Forging Alliances with a broad range of community partners including: First Nations, youth groups, community groups, environmental groups, Friendship Centres, media etc.
  • Writing press releases and compiling articles for "Tok Blong Pasifik" magazine.
  • Admin, Budgets. Narrative and Financial Reporting. Answering phone, email and other queries.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must be a full time post-secondary student registered and returning to school in September.

This position is ideally suited (but not limited) to students specializing in:

First Nations Studies, Indigenous Governance, Environmental Studies, International Relations, Pacific and Asian Studies, Anthropology

Other skills sought include: Strong computer ability (Word,  Excel and PowerPoint). Effective oral and written communication, strong interpersonal skills, organizational skills. Ability to work both independently and within a team environment. Ability to prioritize and work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines. Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail.

Preference will be given to candidates of Aboriginal Ancestry.
