PPP is Hiring!

Pacific Peoples’ Partnership is seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated Cultural Events Coordinator to organize educational and cultural events in the Victoria and Southern Vancouver Island area. These events will raise awareness of environmental and human rights issues in the South Pacific and Canadian First Nations. Successful candidates welcome the opportunity to practice cross-cultural skills, while deepening knowledge of South Pacific and First Nations cultures, international trade agreements, international Human Rights and environmental conventions.

Activities include the organization and coordination of educational and cultural events to raise awareness of First Nation and Pacific environmental issues related to biodiversity, climate change and unsustainable resource extraction. Compiling articles for our “Tok Blong Pasifik” newsletter. Administration tasks such as mail-outs, meetings, budget reviews and reporting. Forging alliances with First Nations, youth groups, community groups and businesses, Friendship Centres, local and national NGOs.

Candidates must be a full-time post-secondary students returning to school in September.

Duties will include:
• Coordinating educational and cultural events
• Supervising volunteers
• Working with youth, community and environmental partners
• Fundraising assistance & support with data
• Writing grant proposals, press releases and articles.
• Responding to phone, email and other queries.

Skills sought include:
• Strong computer ability (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
• Effective communication,
• Organized and able to prioritize and meet deadlines.
• Accuracy and attention to detail.

This position is ideally suited (but not limited) to students in First Nations Studies, Indigenous Governance, Environmental Studies, International Relations, Pacific and Asian Studies, Anthropology
